“Stretch up as if you are touching the ceiling, now drop your head back toward the wall, push your arms back, way back, more back like you are going to touch the wall behind you, fall back, go back, more back … breathe and come up.”
This is my yoga instructor’s voice again telling me to stretch beyond any point that I have ever stretched before. Boy, there are times I would just like to tell them what to do with their stretching! But, we don’t go there. I have to remember that I do choose to do this.
Just as I chose to go into business for myself and not be mired down in the corporate world that had been my life for the past 18+ years. I knew, in my heart of hearts, that my purpose was to run my own business along with being of service in whatever I do.
Hearing and keeping the above words in my head even when I am in my entrepreneurial mode of running my business, I know these are helpful instructions. When you start up a new business or begin a major project, you know that it is going to take more than you believed it would ever take. This is when we all dig deep and give that one last push (to fall back, go back, more back) to achieve what it is we know we can achieve.
But how do we keep the negative self-talk out of our thoughts and out of our work life, which will ultimately affect how our business will evolve. The tool I have learned to utilize when the emotions begin to run high is to make an agreement with these emotions (negative self-talk telling me that it can’t be done). I make an agreement to ask one simple question … but what if I could do it or what if it could be accomplished? This allows me to stretch out of the emotions bringing me down and open myself up to a more expanded positive form of thought. Ideas come more easily when I am in this state of being. I become more creative, more enthusiastic, more of everything and my business thrives!
Another tool for me is to have others, my friends, my family, and my associates/peers, people that believe in me more than I believe in myself … to be around me. When I feel that I have stretched beyond any point that I have before and I am still feeling the need for support, I reach out to my family, friends, and peers to get that one last push from them that I can do IT! Just like my yoga instructor.
